REVIEW EDITION Reviews and Advice Bob
Dylan: LIVE 1961-2000: THIRTY-NINE YEARS OF GREAT CONCERT PERFORMANCES. This
is a curious release, first it is only available in Japan and it is one
of the best compilations of Dylan since The Bootleg Series. Why Japan?
Well I guess Bob needed product to sell there on a recent tour but why
deprive the world of this gem? Featuring live performances from 1961
("Wade in the Water") to 2000 ("Things have
Changed") you are treated to 11 performances that have not appeared
on any Dylan album with the rest from hard to find eps or tribute
albums. I was wonder how many other artists could pull off a career
review of this depth? Sure the Stones, Beatles, etc but of today's
artists who can you foresee to be around 39 years? Note to Britney Spears - I suggest you find the biography of Charo if you want to know where your career is headed. Yes hot today and welcome to the Harrah's casino in Joliet Illinois tomorrow. Coochie Coochie Britney Note to Rolling Stone magazine - In an issue with great articles about the passing of legend Joey Ramone and an interview with the Dali Lama what the hell were you thinking of putting Destiny's Child on the cover with the title "Booty Camp!" - can you degrade yourself a little more. I suggest a trip down to the archives of Rolling Stone to regain some direction, maybe find an old joint and a much need shot of integrity. Geezer
Review: Ian Hunter- Rant You won't see this on MTV and I think even
VH1 has given up on him but the voice and vision of Mott the Hoople has
just released one of his strongest efforts. You won't hear it on the
radio but songs like "Still Love Rock and Roll" and
"Purgatory" deserve some airplay on at least classic rock
stations. Hunter's an example of an artist without a format -- sort
of like being stuck in the twilight zone of rock n roll. I find this odd
since the other day I read that the fastest growing segment of the
record buying public is 40+. Shouldn't this be his demographic market?
Maybe by fastest growing they were talking about waistlines not cd
buying or these are the people buying all the Britney and Jay Z in a
futile attempt to "relate" to their bored teenage offspring.
Any way if you ever liked Mott you owe to yourself to check this out. Note to Hooters Restaurant- Be prepared for an influx of applications now that the XFL has folded. Bruce
Springsteen and the E Street Band- Live In New York City
