Jack's 10 CDís that
stuck in my CD player in 2002 and refused to leave: |
1. Springsteen ñ The Rising
ñ easy to pigeonhole as a cd specifically about
9/11 but itís much deeper than that. Speaking to how to survive in a
changing world where nothing is guaranteed.
2. Grandpa boy ñ Mono ñ a raw rocking tribute to one take, one moment, one
chance to get it right rock n roll. No record had the heart of this one.
Plus you get ìStereoî for free.
3. Solomon Burke ñ Donít Give Up On Me ñ Soul the way they used to make it
from one of the great voices of his generation.
4. Kasey Chambers ñ Barricades & Brickwalls ñ from alt.country to rave up
rock Chambers is a talent to watch.
5. Elvis Costello ñ when I was cruel ñ Elvis with a chip on his should and a
band to match. The edge is back.
6. Norah Jones ñ Come Away With Me ñ Smooth sultry and bluesy beyond her
years. Great for late night listening. Pass the martini please.
7. Los Lobos ñ Good Morning Aztlan ñ doing roots music like is should be
done ñ loud, minimal production and a song variety that makes them one of
the great-under appreciated American bands.
8. The Flatlanders ñ Now Again. ñ the high lonesome sound of Texas.
9. Coldplay ñ A Rush of Blood To The Head ñ a band coming into itís own and
with the songwriting to last longer than the usual 3 cds. Combines the best
of Radiohead and U2 into something completely Coldplay.
10. Pearl Jam- Riot Act ñ from mega important act to a band now comfortable
in its own skin. Pearl Jam now has the freedom to be more than poster boys
for the grunge generation. A work of maturity and depth.
Close calls and great efforts -
really any one of these could replace choices 6-10 on any given day
depending on my mood

12. Paul Westerburg ñ Stereo
13. Peter Wolf - Sleepless
14. Van Morrison ñ Down the Road
15. Steve Earle ñ Side Tracks / Jerusalem
