The Pope smokes dope, he's a groovy head.

Okay, I know I was lauding ol' JP2 the other day, but I think he might have lost his silly, little Polack mind.  The Third Miracle of Fatima was Mary's prediction that there would be an attempt on the Pope's life?  Okay, genius - you knew about this and you still showed up to get shot?  And then you waited 10 years to tell us about it?  Wait, it all makes sense - the end of WW one, the fall of communism and... that?!  Somebody's been dippin' into the blood of Christ.

Favorite Song Of All Time This Week©:  "One Toke Over The Line" - Brewer & Shipley.

Which are you more sick of:  The Gap West Side Story ads, or the William Shatner priceline.com ones?

Speaking of commercials, I am truly digging hearing Chicago's "Free" in those Hyundai ads. III rocks!

By the time you hear from me next week, you will have picked up a copy of XTC's Wasp Star (Apple Venus, Vol. 2).  I'm not kidding.  There will be a test.

Speaking of tests, I took the Rhino Musical Aptitude Test along with a very famous screenwriter pal this week.  Man, what a fucker.  (The test, not the screenwriter.)  If any of you tried, too - I'd love to compare notes.  Results haven't been posted yet, but I'll just say that I'm quite proud of myself.  DEVO hosted the event (at the Tower Records on Sunset Blvd.), and after waiting in a motionless line for 30 minutes after the test, I decided to wait for another day to thank those beautiful mutants.  Pick up their fantastic new anthology, Pioneers Who Got Scalped [Rhino], this weekend.  There's some fine, fine de-evolution on them thar discs, kids.  No "Flimsy Wrap", though.  Damn.

I caught a couple episodes of Cher's post-Sonny CBS TV Show this week on VH-1.  While the concept of "Special Guests" like Marty Feldman & Jimmie Walker are entertaining on their own - a performance of "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds" with taped backing but LIVE vocals by Elton John was unbelievably transplendant.

You know, I keep telling myself that the world didn't end on January 01, 2000 - but then I read that the first single from the soundtrack to Gone In 60 Seconds is a new song written by Diane Warren that's performed by The Cult.  Yeah, that The Cult.

Favorite Album Of All Time This Week©:  Electric - The Cult.  Plastic fantastic lobster telephone, indeed!
