Take your big, black cow and get out of here.

Even though I hate the Farrelly Brothers' movies (except Kingpin - which was okay), and am not a fan of Jim Carrey, I am looking forward to one aspect of the upcoming Me, Myself & Irene - the soundtrack.  It's going to contain a bunch of Steely Dan covers done by some pretty cool cats.  I've heard Brian Setzer's "Bodhisattva" (which is pretty by-the-book), but what I'm really excited about are Smashmouth's "Do It Again" (seems like a natural to me),  Marvelous 3's "Reelin' In The Years", Wilco's "Any Major Dude..." and a fave by a fave - Ben Folds Five doing "Barrytown".  Of course, there's shit like a new Offspring tune (which sucks, well - like they do) and the return of Hootie.  But, hey, there's a new Foo Fighters tune on there, too - so it seems like the plusses will outweigh the minuses on this platter.

Speaking of minuses, I heard another recording artist speak out in favor of Napster:  Offspring's Dexter Holland.  What a maroon.  And dickhead.

Favorite Song Of All Time This Week©:  "Dumb" - Nirvana

You know, everyone tells me that "I saw a bad episode" whenever I try to watch TV shows people say are good.  Well, I've grown rather fond of David Duchovny through his appearances on The Larry Sanders Show & Howard Stern, so I thought I'd give last week's X-Files a shot.  I mean, he wrote & directed it and all.  What a smarmy, self-indulgent, unfunny, unscary waste of time that was.  And, watching it made me miss the first hour of Take Me Home: The John Denver Story which seemed to have everything Dave's crap show didn't:  frightening characters & situations and a real sense of surreality.  Far out, indeed!

LEE On DVD This Week©:  Pee Wee's Big Adventure [Warner Home Video]  Another I've been waiting for - another they've done right.  Fantastic widescreen transfer*, impeccable music remix and some fine extras.  (*A note for you geeks:  If any of you have the original VHS of this film, you've probably noticed many problems with seeing things you shouldn't - the chain coming up from the bottom of it's container while Pee Wee's locking his bike, the track under the street signs before the car goes over the cliff, etc.  Well, when I checked my old VHS copy after viewing the DVD, I realized that the VHS isn't pan & scan but full frame.  These "errors" are corrected when the film is properly cropped.  I'm sure that you don't really care about that, but fuck you - this is LEEmail, not YOURNAMEHEREmail.  Get your own goddamn mailing list.)  Anyhoo, the extras include running commentary by Reubens and Tim Burton (with great anecdotes about locations and supporting players), separate running commentary by Danny Elfman and some great deleted scenes.  Some of the extra footage I had read would be on the DVD isn't, but with what you get it really doesn't matter.  A consistently funny movie.  One of the funniest.  Ever.  If you haven't seen it in a while, do so.  If you're waiting for a great first DVD to push you over the edge, this is it.

Question Of The Week©:  What's the worst movie with the best soundtrack?
