Don't you know that it's different for girls.

I saw "Boys Don't Cry" last weekend.  Hillary Swank is pretty good.  Fantastic, actually.  This is a movie that I respect, but didn't like.  In fact, I grew to like it less and less as days passed.  And, am I alone in having no sympathy for Brandon Teena/Teena Brandon?  Now, I'm not saying that B/T "deserved it" or anything - but, face it, she was a bad person.  I don't care how "confused" she was, she was an idiot.  And a thief.  And a liar.  She was a person who used people and treated the ones who helped her and cared about her like shit.  She decided to surround herself with people who were obviously mental, caused her harm and got her into trouble on numerous occasions.  So, why'd she stay?  She did it all for the nookie.  The nookie.  So someone took a cookie and shot her in the head.  Shot her in the head.  Shot her in the head.  (Ahem)  I'm not trying to lose karma here folks, but, come on.  Natural selection.  Period.  Plus, in a true "Freaks & Geeks" moment, they'd NEVER play The Cure in a redneck bar in Nebraska.

Favorite Album Of All Time This Weekİ: 'Good Old Boys' - Randy Newman.

Hey, Freaks & Geeks.  Still not funny, still a bad show.  This week's show opened with a pathetic attempt to be cool by advertising the writer's love of Joe Jackson.  (I'm sure they didn't know Graham Maby is the bass players' name - and unless they can pick up WXRT in Detroit, there's no way in hell that "I'm The Man" would be playing on the radio.)  Of course, they revisit Joe Jackson later in the show, with "Look Sharp" - a song from his previous album.  Well, at least the songs are from 1979.  I guess that tall semi-retard kid is funny and Cindy has a kinda sexy Winnie from The Wonder Years thing going for her, but, GOOD GOD is that Sam kid hard to look at.  I missed the first hour of 'Mary & Rhoda' for this?!  BTW, "Slip Kid" is from 1975.

Speaking of 'Mary & Rhoda', I made it through 20 minutes of that...that...whatever that was.  The only thing that kept me tuned in for that long was watching that pipe cleaner body with a Tim Burton drawing of Mary Tyler Moore's head on it.

Favorite Song Of All Time This Weekİ:  'Love Is All Around' - H¸sker D¸

02/12/39    Ray Manzarek  (Only for the X stuff, not the Doors stuff)
02/13/42    Peter Tork
02/14/47    Tim Buckley
02/16/38    Sonny Bono
02/17/41    Gene Pitney

2nd Favorite Song Of All Time This Weekİ:  "Long Title: Do I Have To Do This All Over Again" - The Monkees  Yeah, Mike was the best, but Peter DEFINITELY had the boots.

'Music For Imaginary Films' - Arling & Cameron [Emperor Norton].  You know why instrumental soundtracks are never any fun to listen to?  Because there's a movie to equate it to.  Pick up this gem, and make up your own movies.  13 instrumental and vocal themes with fake movie posters for them in the artwork to boot!  If you're a lounge fan, but need a modern feel in your tunes in the same proportion that you need vermouth in your martini, dig this record.  Not as much all out fun as last year's exceptional "All In", but a great addition to the cd changer at your next happening.

'I Am Shelby Lynne'.  'I Am Overrated' would have been a better title.  She's made better records.  Check used bins for the old stuff.  You know, don't even do that.
