Give me some of that yum-yum, before I sleep tonight.

Did you all watch the kick-ass one-two punch of "Buffy" & "Angel" Tuesday night?  Whatta night of fantastic TV.  And did you see the nautica.com ads with the great music?  Whatever could it have been?  Hmmm, maybe OWSLEY?!  And who told you about Owsley MONTHS AGO?  Lil' ol' me.  That's who.  SO GO BUY IT!

LEE on TV This Week©:  Has anybody seen this "Power Team" show?  I like to call it the "Breaking Shit For Jesus" show.  It's these muscle guys who break slabs of concrete, or tear full soda cans in half, or smash burning stacks of wood with their arms - and then they preach about stuff.  The second part is pretty boring, but MAN, I'd still be going to church if they were breaking foot deep ice slabs between readings...

Hooray!  Kudos to Capitol.  Finally, someone, somewhere does something right.  There's a group of re-issues out there (much like the Stones things from a couple years back...without the cumbersome bigass plastic things on them) of classic Capitol releases on CD and LP!  Here's the gig, CD's are in mini-LP sleeves which are gorgeous.  'We're An American Band' in a gold foil unipack - complete with stickers;  'Exile' in a unipack - with postcards.  'Live Bullet' in a gatefold.  'Sticky Fingers' has the zipper.  They're cool, and at a decent list, too.  The LP's also have all of the cool stuff (picture sleeves, posters, stickers, gatefolds, etc.) they had upon original issue.  'Band On The Run' is a 2 record set (with the 2nd LP being the anniversary reissue 2nd CD).  'We're An American Band' is even on gold vinyl.  Man, are they groovy.  Now the list on these is really salty, but for collector's scum and vinyl lovers like me...WHO CARES!  Buy before they're gone.  Word has it that the CDs will be around for a while...but the LPs lifespans are anybody's guess.  Don't say I didn't warn yer.

Speaking of Capitol, pick up Paul McCartney's 'Run Devil Run', which is a whole mess o' fun.  The new songs are great, and the arrangements on the classics make them seem like new songs.  Ginchy.  The only problem is that it makes you wish Lennon was still alive, because it sure would have been swell to hear them harmonize on a couple tracks.  It also made me realize that I'll probably never listen to 'Rock 'N Roll' again (not like I ever really did...but you've got to have the whole catalog, right?)

Favorite Song Of All Time This Week©:  "Babs & Babs" - Daryl Hall.  GodDAMN people buy the re-issue of 'Sacred Songs'.

Hey, dig the new Chris Cornell record "Euphoria Morning" [A&M].  Now, I was down (on the upside) with the 'garden as much as anyone, but this is a great SOLO record in every sense of the word.  His signature hooks and riffs are there, but they're sweeter.  It's really great to hear the major songwriter for a band do a solo record that doesn't sound like the follow-up to their band's last record.  It took a few spins to really get into it (because it ain't what you'd expect), but now I'm hooked.  Great help from Alain Johannes, too.

HistoricalLEE Speaking This Week©:
10/09/99    Everybody goes out and buys XTC's 'Homespun: The Apple Venus, Vol. 1 Home Demos" [TVT/Idea] CD.

Garthbrooksaschrisgaines News©:  My favorite review line so far, "It's unlikely that die-hard admirers will take to this career transformation and most will see this as one big alter-ego trip." [Michael Speier, Variety]  I'll be anxious to see the sales figures.  It only took Puff Daddy 2 weeks to fall out of the top 10...

LEE on DVD This Week©:
1.  'Barry Lyndon' [WHV]  I think that I will never see, as boring a fucking DVD.  Oh - if he would have only died before this one and saved me three hours...
2.  'The Matrix' [WHV]  Nice special effects, but I'd rather watch a Gap commercial  - same 360 degree camera shot crap, no Keanu Reeves (somebody PLEASE explain the appeal of him to me), & about as much plot.

Question Of The Week©:
'Imagine' or 'Plastic Ono Band'?  (We miss you, John.  Happy Birthday.)
