Saturday
The Schedule begins on Saturday because thatís the way it is in TV Guide, the TV watcherís bible. A choice selection of comedy and variety programming is offered on a night when viewers should forget about the grind of the work week and just be entertained.

7:00 - THE BULLWINKLE SHOW/BEANY & CECIL

The cartoon adventures of a moose and squirrel alternate with those of a boy and his sea sick sea serpent. (Freud would have a field day.)

7:30 - BOB & RAY

This show was on so long ago, I have no idea what it was like. But thereís got to be a place for these funny guys on my network and the fact they had any kind of series at all guarantees them a spot on the schedule. And a possible Wally Ballou spin-off is already in the planning stages.

8:00 - GET SMART

Don Adams is Maxwell Smart, a secret agent who talks into his shoe and sounds a lot like Tennessee Tuxedo. Barbara Feldon is Agent 99, a sexy spy who helps Smart foil the bad guys from K.A.O.S. and looks good doing it. Created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, two comedy writers who would go on to do other zany things in the future.

8:30 - ALL IN THE FAMILY

The Norman Lear sitcom that held a mirror up to society and forced it to take a long hard look at its pock marks. Carrol OíConnor became a TV legend and was so good as the lovable bigot, he could almost be forgiven for Archie Bunkerís Place.

9:00 - THE BOB NEWHART SHOW

The one where Bobís a psychiatrist, his wife is funny and his neighbor Howard doesnít have two brothers named Darryl. Itís also the one with Mr. Carlin, the hostile therapy patient who gives out soap dishes on Halloween.

9:30 - SECOND CITY TV

The ultimate TV parody show featuring an unbeatable cast of very funny people: John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Harold Ramis, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, Martin Short and the amazing Catherine OíHara. (I want to have her baby!!) The only problem with having this show in this time slot is you may not notice when it ends and the following program begins.

10:00 - THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE

This hour-long variety show reeked with the show biz essence that served as the lifeblood for SCTV. Only this isnít parody, itís the real thing. But at least by having The Hollywood Palace on board it gives me the chance to use rotating hosts like Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin without tying up a slot on the schedule for each one of them.
